At Blackhawk Hair Restoration, your journey to more lustrous, healthier hair starts with a hair loss consultation in Danville.

Scheduling a Consultation

The first step toward achieving fuller, thicker hair is scheduling a complimentary consultation with Blackhawk Hair Restoration. Your initial consultation is an important part of the hair restoration treatment process, as it allows you and the clinical team to work together to figure out the best approach for your needs.

During your consultation, we will examine your hair and scalp and invite you to discuss your goals for treatment. You are welcome to ask questions at any time as well.

Before Your Consultation

Prior to your consultation, take some time to jot down relevant details about your health, personal and professional life that may play a role in your hair loss. Include recent life changes and sources of stress, as well as an overview of your medical history.

You should also compile a list of medications, vitamins, and supplements that you take. It can be helpful to bring your current medications to your appointment.

Your Consultation

You can expect the team at Blackhawk Hair to have as many questions for you as you have for them. When you first noticed your hair thinning, how much hair you’ve lost (and where), and if anyone in your family has experienced hair loss are a few of the questions that will be discussed during your appointment.

Active and/or prior medical conditions, especially those that affect blood flow to the hair follicles, can affect how well hair loss treatments work. It’s important to answer questions about your health in as much detail as possible, so the best treatment plan can be created for you.

Assisting Dr. Ronan at the Blackhawk Hair Restoration Center is Adriane McDonald, a registered nurse (RN) who holds advanced training, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and works as the acting Director of Hair Restoration at the Blackhawk Hair Restoration Center. Adriane has over 30 years of first-hand experience in the hair restoration industry and has assisted in over 10,000 hair restoration surgeries and procedures: cumulating a wealth of specialized knowledge. She is one of the friendly faces that you will meet with during your consultation.

Dr. Ronan and Adriane consider relevant aspects of a patient’s lifestyle when determining the cause of thinning hair and when identifying the optimal treatment approach for that individual. Cigarette smoking, for instance, may affect your candidacy for hair transplantation and/or reduce the efficacy of hair restoration treatments as it slows the healing process and restricts blood flow.

Talking about your family history is another important part of the consult. This allows for a better prediction of the extent of your hair loss by looking at the prevalence and characteristics of hair loss in your family.

After all of the information gathered during your consultation is assessed, a unique hair loss treatment plan will be created and reviewed with you.

Diagnostic Examination with Dermascope

At Blackhawk Hair Restoration, we are meticulous about pinpointing the cause of your hair loss. Dermoscopy, or trichoscopy, allows for close inspection of the hair and scalp, which is key for proper diagnosis and treatment of hair loss. Additional diagnostic tools we may use include trichology tests, blood work, scalp biopsies, and light microscopy.

Diagnosis and Discussion

Our team will be able to diagnose your condition and advise you on the best course of action following the completion of the necessary examinations. Adriane will review all of your treatment options with you, so you can make an informed decision for your care.

Treatment Options

Non-invasive hair loss treatments include specially formulated hair care products and prescription medications. Finasteride (Propecia), Minoxidil (Rogaine), spironolactone (Carospir, Aldactone), and oral dutasteride are some medications used to treat hair loss.

Surgical hair transplant procedures are also an option for qualified patients. If it is determined that a medical illness or medication is causing your hair loss, you will be advised to consult your physician.

Surgical Plan and Financing Options

Surgical hair restoration with transplants can be a great option for patients with pattern hair loss, such as male pattern baldness. The hair transplant procedure if performed by removing hair follicles from a hair-bearing area of the head and transplanting them to areas affected by thinning and balding.

Surgical procedures to treat hair loss are typically not covered by insurance. Fortunately, there are several financing and payment solutions available to make hair loss treatments possible for everyone. While we do not directly provide financing, we can recommend resources and services that can assist you with this aspect of your treatment.
