Acorn Stem Cell Banking

And Personalized Secretome Treatment

Acorn is a stem cell banking procedure serving our clients in Danville and the entire San Francisco Bay Area, with a focus on helping you preserve your healthiest hair. By storing a sample of your own cells today, you’re preparing for the future of hair restoration and regenerative treatments such as Secretome. At the same time, Acorn is advancing research into cell-based solutions and developing cutting-edge products that support long-term hair health and natural regrowth.

How Acorn Works

A personalized hair restoration solution.

Acorn uses a simple, non-invasive method to collect your hair follicle cells, which are then cryogenically preserved to stop the natural aging process. By freezing your healthiest cells today, you’re creating a personal reserve that could be used in future hair regenerative solutions such as your very own personalized Secretome treatment.

Our provider will carefully collect around 50 hair follicles from the back and sides of your scalp, where hair tends to remain thickest over time. Once your sample arrives at our specialized lab, it undergoes a viability test to ensure the cells are healthy and usable. You’ll receive a personalized report from Acorn letting you know how your sample performed.

If the sample doesn’t meet our viability standards, we’ll invite you back for a free follow-up collection at no extra cost so we can ensure a complete, high-quality cell bank for every patient.

Your Acorn collection procedure will be performed at the Blackhawk Hair Restoration’s surgery center located in Danville, CA.

Acorn FAQs

Why Are Hair Follicles Ideal for Stem Cell Collection?

With approximately 100,000 hair follicles on the average human scalp, only 50 are needed for Acorn’s effective collection process. This plentiful resource is gathered through a simple, noninvasive procedure and contains powerful cell types—such as keratinocytes, fibroblasts, and hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs). These cells hold significant potential for supporting skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, tissue repair, and future regenerative therapies.

When Is the Best Time to Bank Your Stem Cells?

Although everyone ages differently, most people reach peak cellular health in their twenties. From there, cellular function gradually declines, with a noticeable acceleration in aging after the age of 60. Since your cells are at their youngest and most potent right now, we recommend banking hair follicle stem cells as early as possible to maximize their long-term regenerative potential.

What’s the Process for Retrieving My Banked Cells?

As new therapies emerge that can take advantage of your preserved youthful cells, Acorn will ensure they are securely stored, carefully maintained, and readily available for any medically approved use.

How Can I Tell If My Cell Sample Is Viable?

Once your sample arrives at our lab, Acorn conducts two rounds of thorough testing to confirm that your cells meet our strict viability standards. If additional cells are needed to complete your sample, you’ll be notified by email, and a follow-up collection—referred to as a “top-up”—will be scheduled at no additional cost to you.

Why Banking Your Own Cells Is Safer Than Using Donor Cells

Banking your own cells eliminates the risk of immune rejection that can occur with donor-derived treatments. Unlike donor cells, which may require the use of costly immunosuppressant medications—known to increase the risk of infections and other complications—your own cells are naturally compatible with your body. This makes them a safer, more practical option, especially for aesthetic and elective regenerative procedures where safety and long-term viability are key.

How Access to Your Younger Cells Supports Healthier Aging

As your body ages, your cells naturally decline in function and regenerative ability. That’s why banking your younger cells today can make a significant difference in the success of future treatments—especially for skin, hair, and tissue rejuvenation. Without access to preserved, more youthful cells, you may one day find that your current cells are no longer viable for regenerative therapies, limiting your options when you need them most.

How Regenerative Medicine Transforms Healing and Recovery

Regenerative medicine focuses on restoring or enhancing normal function by replacing, engineering, or rejuvenating human cells, tissues, and organs. This groundbreaking approach is already making waves in aesthetic treatments—like platelet-rich plasma (PRP)—offering natural, cell-based solutions for skin and hair rejuvenation. As noted by Dermatology Times in May 2021, “Regenerative Aesthetic Medicine will significantly impact what we do and how we do it within the next five years.”

How Do Preserved Cells Benefit Skin and Hair Restoration?

Studies have shown that the cell types preserved through Acorn’s process may support hair regrowth and skin rejuvenation through regenerative therapies. Introducing younger cells back into the body can help restore what’s naturally lost over time—like collagen and hair follicles—while also encouraging nearby cells to function in a more youthful way. Early clinical trials suggest these treatments may be delivered through familiar methods such as topical serums, injectables, and potentially even implants or grafts in the future.

How Is Hair Follicle Cell Banking Different from Genetic Tests?

DNA tests offer a snapshot of your genetic profile, helping you uncover ancestral origins, inherited traits, and potential health risks. However, these tests analyze genetic material—not living cells—and the samples cannot be used for regenerative therapies. In contrast, Acorn collects and preserves live, functional cells from your hair follicles, making them viable for future regenerative treatments designed to restore and rejuvenate the body.
