Eyebrow Transplant and Restoration

Conveniently located in Danville to serve the entire Bay Area – San Ramon, Alamo, Walnut Creek, Moraga, Lafayette, Dublin, Pleasanton, Orinda, Castro Valley, Livermore

With the help of eyebrow transplant and restoration in the Bay Area, patients can have their thin or sparse eyebrows filled in naturally. Hairs are transplanted one by one from a donor area, which is usually the back of the head, to the eyebrow to address thinning or scarred eyebrows. The idea is to make your eyebrows darker and fuller so that you don’t have to use makeup to make your eyebrows darker.

Eyebrow transplant and restoration are conducted in a manner that is comparable to hair transplants on the scalp. The procedure calls for an elevated level of artistic ability and experience to obtain aesthetically pleasing results. Dr. Ronan will remove as small a strip of scalp as possible to fulfill the aims of the procedure. In almost all cases, the strip of skin will contain from two to 15 hair follicles, but depending on your particular case, you might need more follicles to achieve your desired look.

Eyebrow transplant and restoration is a minimally invasive process and can be done as an outpatient procedure. A single day is all that is needed to complete it. It provides unnoticeable and long-lasting results.

Am I a Good Candidate for an Eyebrow Transplant?

An eyebrow transplant is an excellent option for both men and women who want to restore their eyebrows. You have the option of choosing between a complete or partial brow transplant to fill in sparse regions. The option you choose will depend on the severity of your hair loss, as well as your aesthetic goals.

What Happens During the Consultation?

Eyebrow Transplant Techniques

In most cases, the eyebrow transplant and restoration procedure takes between three and five hours. This surgery is conducted in our private surgery center under local anesthetic to ensure that patients do not experience any pain or discomfort. Patients will not require a general anesthetic for this procedure.

Dr. Ronan will either use the strip harvesting or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method to harvest the hair follicles for eyebrow transplant and restoration. No matter which procedure is employed, the patient can expect Dr. Ronan to specifically choose fine hairs because finer hair is more like real eyebrow hair.

In strip harvesting, also known as FUT or Follicular Unit Transplant, a thin strip of skin and hair is extracted from the back of the head and used for eyebrow transplant and restoration. The excised area will be carefully stitched back together to reduce the chance of surgical marks.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) requires tiny holes to be made around each hair follicle on the back of the head and removed one by one. The hair follicles are then made ready to be moved. There are no incisions or stitches needed.

What Is the Recovery Process Following the Procedure?

Eyebrow transplant is a same-day procedure, so you’ll be able to go home after the anesthesia wears off. However, each patient’s recovery after an eyebrow transplant varies.

Temporary edema (swelling) is common in this sensitive location. Some patients can suffer redness, puffiness, and swelling around their eyes for many days after surgery. Most people don’t find healing uncomfortable and can manage pain with OTC drugs as recommended by Dr. Ronan. Cold compresses reduce pain and edema.

Dr. Ronan will suggest waiting at least 24 hours before resuming normal activities. It will be necessary to avoid excessive exercise for one week to limit the risk of bleeding and harm to the donor and recipient sites. Patients can return to work the next day, but they may take a few days off if they experience redness or swelling around the eyes and scabbing of the grafted follicles.

Other normal precautions apply: no strenuous activity for six weeks, taking pain medications properly, and making necessary follow-up appointments.

It’s also completely normal for the transplanted hair to fall out, which is known as shedding. It shows that your body is healing the right way. New hair will grow in its place. You should also bear in mind that the transplanted hair will continue to grow as if it were still on your head.

When scabbing occurs, keep them bandaged, and above all, do not pick at them. That can even undo a stitch and require a trip back to Dr. Ronan. Be aware of unusual bleeding, swelling, or leaking of pus. If any of these occur, please contact us or your family doctor right away.

Cosmetic Results of an Eyebrow Transplant

The transplanted hairs will begin to fall out within two or three weeks following eyebrow restoration. A few months after the treatment, new hair follicles will begin to grow.

Within six to nine months of surgery, the majority of patients have about 60% hair regrowth. Complete hair restoration takes between 12 and 18 months after the eyebrow transplant and restoration procedure.

The transplanted hairs will grow faster than natural eyebrow hairs because they will grow at the same pace as they did in the donor area. As a temporary fix, patients can trim their brow hairs to give them a more groomed look. Patients will feel better about their appearance as a result of this.
